'Éblouissante Venise' au Grand Palais, janvier 2018にて、10点以上は展示されていました。ヴェニスの街の景観図は総じて今ひとつの作品が多かったですが、仮面舞踏会や洪水のシーンで見るべきものがありました。

Venice from the Bacino di San Marco

グアルディ的な雰囲気のする筆触です。有名なサンマルコ広場が左奥に見えます。この辺りの光景は今も昔も変わらないでしょう。また当時のヴェネツィアの水上もとてもアクティブだったのでしょう。しかしそこには時代の違いを感じさせます。

This is a fairly early example of Guardi’s vedute paintings, and it depicts one of the most famous views of Venice: across the harbor basin are a series of buildings from the Mint, the incomplete facade of the church of Santa Maria della Pietà, and beyond. Toward the left are the library, bell tower and clock tower, San Marco, the twin columns of the Piazzetta, and the patterned brickwork facade of Palazzo Ducale. But it is the echo of the skylines in the busy shipping activity of the foreground that dominates the scene with a surfeit of watercraft, workmen, sails, rigs, and oars.

いい絵です。ヴェネツィアを描くにしては暗めです。殺伐としたところとムードが組み合わさっています。
